IDPA Headquarters is pleased to announce the appointment of Seth Hayden as Area Coordinator (AC) for the states of Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Mississippi effective Jan. 7, 2025. Seth is from Montgomery, AL and his home club is the Central Alabama Gun Club in Shorter, AL where he serves as Match Director.

The SSP/ESP/CCP/CDP Master has been shooting IDPA since 2012.  “A client wanted to start shooting but was worried he would make an embarrassment of himself, so I told him I would go,  and that way he wouldn’t be the worst out there. I was hooked on shooting sports after the first stage.”

His favorite thing about IDPA?  “I like that it provides me with a chance to compete against myself and not always against others, it is very focused on self-improvement.  It is rewarding to enjoy the camaraderie with other shooters, many of whom are willing to help other shooters get better.

Hayden feels that his new area of responsibility has grown in the past several years.  “We finally have the Alabama State match back after an 8-year hiatus and are looking to grow that match starting this year.”  He has a few other plans for the future of his area.  “We plan to bring back the TriState Shootout match in April of 2025 and also want to resurrect the Masters.”

This new AC is the owner of a small IT company in the southeast that provides managed services.  His spare time is spent with his wife of 27 years, and his two grown daughters.   His other major hobby is participating in a local pool league, in addition to shooting and working nearly 10 sanctioned IDPA matches each year.

What things does Seth want his new constituents to know about him?  “I will be available and visible to the members in my area because together we are stronger.  I plan to build on the foundation that Nicky Carter, former AC, built.  His contributions over the years were stellar and I am grateful to him.”

Members in this area can reach Seth at se*********@gm***.com.

IDPA HQ is happy to announce that  Joyce Hernandez from Miami has accepted the role as State Coordinator for Florida.

Joyce is Miami born and raised and joined IDPA in 2019.  Despite having a permit and carrying every day since 2011, she had never heard of competitive shooting until stumbling upon a video of someone shooting a stage. She searched for clubs in her area and found her home club in Homestead, FL. Joyce said “I have them to thank for embracing me and providing the opportunities I’ve enjoyed. I also owe special thanks to both Rick Lund and Larry Wheeler, who have been pivotal mentors at my home range, guiding and supporting me along the way. After becoming an SO within my first year of shooting, I became involved with our South Florida Defensive Challenge (SFDC) sanctioned match and began working other matches throughout the country. Since 2022, I’ve had the honor of serving as MD for SFDC, and I became an SOI soon after.”

Growing up Joyce was drawn to shooting young, as she spent time playing Duck Hunt and other shooter games with her older brother.  Joyce said that her brother has “been a police officer for over 15 years, and from a young age, he instilled in me the importance of discipline, honor, and determination. We spent countless hours practicing martial arts, and later, bonding over games like Halo and Call of Duty. Today, we train together often, pushing each other to be better shooters, and I credit much of my growth in the sport to those sessions. His influence and guidance have made me the person that I am today.”

Joyce is very excited to take on this role.  She is passionate about teaching and helping support shooters in the sport.  “As the Florida State Coordinator, I’m particularly excited to work alongside match directors on their stage designs and briefs. I believe a great match truly begins with a strong solid foundation of well-designed stages, and it’s crucial that these are not only safe and within the rules but also challenging and enjoyable for shooters. Achieving this balance enhances match efficiency and delivers a consistent, rewarding experience for all shooters. With this in mind we can ensure that Florida’s matches continue to be top destinations for shooters nationwide as well as globally.”

Please join us as we welcome Joyce to this new position.

Greetings to all of our US membership,

We are always respectful of your email inboxes as we know you are inundated, as we are, by too many emails that are unsolicited.

In this case, we feel it is imperative to reach out.

In just over a week, this country will experience a Presidential election like we have never seen in our lives. This truly may be the make it or break it of our great country.

Our Forefathers explicitly ordered our Constitution to protect our freedom of speech and our right to bear arms. These tenets, along with our Christian rights, are under attack.

I urge all of our members in the United States to open their eyes, research their facts and vote with their conscience and their hearts. In doing so, I wholeheartedly endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States. He truly is our last chance for freedom in this beautiful country. While I completely understand that some don’t like his quick wit or unfiltered tongue, he has the best interest of this country in his heart. It is a true testament that some of the smartest and richest individuals like Elon Musk are now endorsing him. Elon has gone above and beyond to ensure that our 1st Amendment rights to free speech are preserved.

Many don’t understand how the 1st Amendment has caused great problems for those of us supporting the 2nd Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms. Without these two Amendments, we would not be able to enjoy the sport of IDPA in the United States as we do currently. Ask any of the wonderful foreign competitors who come to the National and World Championships what it is like in their country. Sadly, they do not enjoy the freedoms that we do. In order for us to keep enjoying those freedoms we must support those who support us. Sadly, that is not the Democratic party.

I encourage all of you to early vote, vote on election day, do what ever it takes to make sure that we preserve this wonderful country and the freedoms that we enjoy. This may very well be our last shot.

God save our country.

Sincerely,

Joyce Wilson
