DEFENSIVE SHOOTERS FELLOWSHIP OF WEST BROWARD
Welcome to the new Defensive Shooters Fellowship of West Broward (DSF) website. DSF is a small local official IDPA club established in 1999. The Club holds friendly monthly matches on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Pop’s Gun Range located off U.S. Hwy. 27 in Southwest Ranches, FL. Prior to joining our club, interested applicants are invited to attend a monthly match as an observer to familiarize themselves about IDPA competition shooting. In addition, prospective members must complete an application form, hold a Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License and be a member of IDPA and NRA.
Mission Statement of Defensive Shooters Fellowship of West Broward:
●To encourage organized shooting among members of our community with a view toward a better knowledge of such participants on the safe handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship.
●To further the development of the characteristics of honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, team play and self-reliance which are the essentials of good sportsmanship and the foundation of true patriotism.
●To maintain an affiliation with the International Defensive Pistol Association, the National Rifle Association, and Pop’s Gun Range.
Many shooters have expressed interest in IDPA style shooting so I have briefly outlined below what shooting IDPA entails.
As described in the Official IDPA Rule Book, the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) was founded in 1996 and is the governing body for IDPA competition, a handgun-centric shooting sport based on simulated self-defense scenarios.
The IDPA competition format was designed to be enjoyable for all shooters of all skill levels, with a premium put on the social interaction and camaraderie of the members. Participation in IDPA matches requires the use of handguns, holsters and other equipment suitable for concealed carry self-defense. With that in mind, and keeping the shooters' best interests in mind, IDPA's founders established equipment requirements that are based on commonly available firearms and gear, allowing the individuals the opportunity to compete with minimal investment.
IDPA stands as the fastest growing shooting sport in the United States with over 25,000 members from all 50 states and over 400 affiliated clubs hosting weekly and monthly competitions. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual.
